Maybe Things are Different
South Carolina was only 2 out of 9 in the last 11 games facing Georgia. Steve spurrier was only 1-4. On a bright sunny day in Columbia South Carolina, The South Carolina Gamecocks manhandled the georgia Bulldogs 17-6 before a racous crowd at Williams Brice Statdium. Maybe this time things are different for USC, maybe this time things are for real. There is a buzzing going around campus that this USC team is one of the best talented squads to hit the football field and today they showed it. Running Back Marcus Lattimore rushed for182 yards on 37 carries and they were tough inside the tackle runs for the most part. Stephen garcia had an impressive quality game as the teams leader. The one dark cloud that hangs over Columbia and it's fans is the fact that South Carolina's football program received a formal letter of inquiry that it was under NCAA investigation.
Spurrier said on his radio show Thursday night he could not address NCAA issues, although the investigation has "nothing to do with anything coaches did. It was some other areas, I believe, so we'll let it play its way out."
Weslye Saunders was the starting tight end entering fall, a 6-foot-6 senior considered a potential first-rounder in next spring's NFL draft. However, he was questioned by the NCAA in connection with possible contact with agents and his attendance at a South Beach party earlier this year. There have been similar investigations at Alabama and North Carolina also linked to the party.
Saunders was among several players Spurrier asked to move out of a local hotel amid allegations of cheaper rates than available to the public, although the NCAA has not detailed the scope of its inquiry. Let us hope that this time things are different and not more of the same, the last thing South Carolina Fans need is some type of suspension by the NCAA in the midst of a si=uccessful undefeated season, that would be the ultimate chicken curse.
