The South Carolina Gamecocks are making another trip to a bowl game. In rewards for their 10-2 season they Gamecocks get to play the might Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Save your hoppin Johns and Collards for another day, this game will be a grinding ugly game for the gamecock faithful. Steve Spurrier is only 1-4 in Bowl games since becoming their head coach. Spurrier is able to defeat Clemson almost every year, however, when the guys head to a popular city the whole program goes to shambles. In the past bowl games we have seen USC get smashed by Conneticut, Iowa and Florida St. and Missouri. These past bowl game were not only even not close they were a downright embarrassment for the University and it's fans. People are unsure what goes wrong when they leave Columbia, but history dictates something does awfully. Whether the kids go out partying, break curfew or simple don't give 100% lately USC in bowl games has been something that is joked about.
The Gamecocks are already battling controversy even before the bowl game arrives. Defensive coach Ellis Johnson is leaving the USC staff and heading for Southern Miss. In fact he isn't even staying on for the bowl game. The fact that he isn't coaching in the bowl game should be a clue. Also last week some of the Gamecocks star players found themselves embroiled in NCAA allegations of being used as party hosts in some local town holiday parties. This of course is illegal according to the NCAA but parrtying appeared to be more important.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers finished the season at 8-3. The history of the Nebraska program is awe inspiring though. The Cornhuskers are the winning-est college football program over the last 50 years, both by winning percentage and number of wins. These guys don't lose much.
Nebraska will grind out the run against an unprepared gamecock defensive front and by halftime the tired gamecock team will be down 20 points. The second half will turn uglier as the Gamecock offense tries to score points in a hurry. Interceptions will plague Connor Shaw and the game will totally get out of hand. The final score will be close to 43-13 and another bowl loss gets ahnded to Spurrier and the USC program. The 2012 Capital One Bowl will be played the day after New Years Day. Kick off at 1:00 p.m. on January 2nd from Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando and will be televised nationally by ESPN.
